Our new blend is 50% Pinot Grigio and 50% Chardonel. We generally use 25% Chardonel in our varietal Pinot Grigio and when we came up with this idea, we knew that a 50/50 blend would be fantastic. So, we’ve named this wine in honor of where both varietals grow here on our estate – Block A. We hope you enjoy this new fresh take on our white blends!
Our signature Rosé is bright and fresh, a dry Rosé, made from 100% Chambourcin. The 2018 vintage is a beautiful, light salmon color with beautiful crisp acidity. CABERNET FRANC 2016
A favorite among wineries in Virginia, Cabernet Franc is a grape that really showcases Virginia climate and soil conditions that are optimal for growing a spicy, fruit forward Cabernet. It’s like an aroma potpourri of floral and spice, then fills the mouth with dried fruit and preserves reminiscent of a nutty fruitcake, ending with a smooth, caramel chocolate truffle finish.

Brilliant green-gold in the glass and brightly perfumed, the 2017 Totier Creek White is a blend of 53% Vidal Blanc and 47% Seyval Blanc which deftly balances delicate, natural sweetness with lip-smacking acidity. First Colony’s 2017 Riesling Reserve represents an exceptional improvement upon this wine’s maiden vintage in 2017, owing both to a better vineyard source and a truly remarkable growing season. Initially somewhat reticent in the glass, the wine blossoms with several minutes of aeration, displaying zesty, head-turning aromas of Kaffir lime, lemon pith, and wet stone. The palate is linear and sheer, with mouth-watering citrus fruit and shimmering minerality that practically beg for another sip. After several days an open bottle begins to show even more complexity, taking on herbaceous, floral tones of wisteria and pennyroyal that fan out of the finish like a peacock’s tail, suggesting that the wine will benefit enormously from several years of aging.
Far and away the most taut and lively vintage of this wine to date. Where previous years exhibited almost candied strawberry/watermelon aromatics, the 2018 is steelier, with decidedly citrusy aromas of blood orange, tangerine, and ruby red grapefruit. The palate is likewise more linear and energetic than years past, with a fine bead of mouthwatering acidity and certain beguiling stoniness framing flavors of white peach and nectarine.
First Colony’s subtle blend features 30% Cab Sauvignon, 30% Cab Franc, 30% Petit Verdot, and 10% Vidal Blanc. With aromas of light tobacco and soft fruit, this easy drinking blend finishes with intense fruit flavors of apple and light citrus.
As vivid and high-toned a Bordeaux blend, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, as First Colony has ever produced, the 2016 Meritage soars from the glass with all the perfume and intrigue of a fine, coastal Pinot Noir. Glossy red fruit flavors of sour cherry and pomegranate are given lift and verve by a certain herbal piquancy that screams Cabernet Franc, somewhere between juniper and fresh mint. Given the wine’s up-front, juicy fruit character, fresh acidity, and fully-resolved tannins, the 2016 Meritage will be at its best over the next three years, preferably paired with something off the grill.
